"Punctuality"
Jacques Huyghebaert loves to teach me many things. He is like my dad, or more like my grandpa because he is 75 and so old. I call him, "brother" as he is my masonic brother. In Sinhalese language, we often say, "Aiya" which also means older brother, or "Malli" which means younger brother. But honestly, I always call people by the first name.
I used to call Navin Marapana, "Navin Aiya", but I am plotting gleefully to call him "Navin Uncle" and also "Mathisha Uncle" to Mathisha Dharmasiri Aiya and Yasendra Uncle to Yasendra Amarasinghe Aiya.
They are just all so disrespectful. I will definitely say it when I see them in public or talking to girls.
If I had to tend to a serious emergency, if the house is on fire or a thief is running away with valuables, and I see these three, I will go and say, "Hi Uncle, sorry I did not get the chance to say, 'hi', hello aunty" to the girl and then vanish.
I am a wicked person, but I love to pretend I am innocent.
That is the secret: You must act as though it is perfectly normal, and good, and correct!
Stephen LaBrooy, who is 83, is insulted that I call him "Stephen Seeya". He is really, REALLY annoyed. But I will innocently tell him, "Look Stephen, this is how we show respect in SL, I am only calling you Seeya/ Granpa affectionately, dotingly, bla bla.. "
Jacques taught me to be on time. It is important to respect people. If you do not show up on time ,you do not respect them, Thilanga uncle loves to show up on time!, Jacques shows up 10 or 15 minutes in advance. I love that about him.
Jacques, like on MONDAY, JUNE 15, 1942 of Anne Frank's Diary, where it is immortalised,
"Jacqueline van Maarsen is supposedly my best friend, but I've never had a real friend.
At first I thought Jacque would be one, but I was badly mistaken."
Jacques, is my best friend too.
