This is fantastic for anticipated formal events/ functions in August! A smart casual/ office wear or a suit, it is also perfectly fine for formal events.
Please bring white color clothes because it is required to enter sacred Buddhist sites. This is because white symbolises purity in Buddhism. Amanda can bring a white scarf or shawl, just in case to cover up shoulders.
Temple officials are traditional and will make a fuss, they have refused to allow my female cousins and sister Lehara to enter temples in the past because their legs or shoulders barely showed. I have heard those wearing coloured clothing were also not allowed inside temples. It is helpful to wear white colour as I plan to take you to secret areas of the temples as our family's guests where foreigners are forbidden from visiting.
I can also suggest swimsuits or swimming trunks as we will swim with elephants or visit the beaches. Shorts are a good idea if you wish to travel through jungles where you find snakes and leeches. Uncle Thilanga is fixing our speed boat, so we can look forward to that too.
We know many hotels you can enjoy as we seek to visit all the important locations. Sandesh Sharma owns boutique hotel Cocoon Resorts Sri Lanka for when travelling out of Colombo. There is a great hotel near Sigiriya Rock Fortress owned by another friend, for when we climb Sigiriya.
Anthony Bourdain visited Sri Lanka in 2009. He met fellow Freemason Stephen Labrooy if you look at the 16:00 minute mark in No Reservations: https://youtu.be/BIO0ZuvXCl8
The music video below was filmed in Sri Lanka: Duran Duran -- Hungry Like A Wolf: https://youtu.be/1pNyRlNc6fE As you can see, our clothing is often modest, we do not take ourselves so seriously ^ __ ^ We're Buddhists.
