Successful Sri Lankan Buddhist businesses: Dhammika's Casino and Jagath's Sporting Star

These happen to be the only two businesses which seem to be doing really well. They're owned by Sinhalese Buddhists.

Because Buddha has said in his Right Livelihood, part 6 of 8fold path, that we shouldn't kill animals, make weapons, deal in slavery, make poisons or addictive consumables. So what happened, is they were all handled by Christians or Moslems in Sri Lanka. Typically. As Buddhism and Buddhist monks, are quite strict on this.

I am not involved in those areas too. Although arguably, technology is a form of slavery. And Apple's Steve, who was part of Mahayana, and its Americanized Zen version, was perhaps the most celebrated Buddhist CEO.

They sold a lot of their stocks to Warren Buffett's Berkshire and investors.

I think Jayantha Dharmadasa, under Premadasa with HK his dad, and several Sinhalese went into construction, won those "tenders" and accumulated wealth too.

Those were the other way, they ran the hospital.

I am a little bit, biased, when I say, things like, oh those harmful businesses were profitable and therefore the only ones worth buying stocks in.

But it's not always true: there were ethical ways to earn money.

It's just as defeatist as I am in this, I fear those 5 trades were historically always required and will always be required.
