The ESRB or Entertainment Software Rating Board have given a mature rating for Halo 1 or 2, because of the way the Flood (alien fungus like enemy species) takes over a human being. They felt it was too disturbing. So, i think they toned it down in Halo 3 or have compromised by reducing the degree of violence occurring. Such as reducing blood (splash) and gore. So, they got a different or better child friendly rating... I might be wrong on this.

Because my Hefner's-parent-esque puritan father Palith was very horrifyingly Draconian in his religious observances.
