Starbucks China ownership
June 9, 2023
Noted a CNBC chart showing Starbucks owned 100% of its China stores, versus 59% company-operated in North America. The contrast landed as a smart China strategy shift
A State-Backed Monopoly Model for Multinational Companies
12:15 p.m. (e)
We're limiting the number of companies in any markets.
This might seem anti competitive.
But it's not.
We're just doing it in a healthy way where the leading MNC takes over.
This way, as long as they're cooperating, we gain a better deal.
They'll lead the way, they'll have a secure base of operations.
They can go after Asia market.
The companies locally, will just be focused on improving our monopoly.
It'll likely be a state asset that is backed by our SWF, bank and gov't.
This is a good deal for any multinational corporation.
They don't have to worry about law, funding, hiring, marketing, or anything.
Just on leadership.
Comparing Modern War to Command & Conquer: Generals
12:30 p.m. (b)
This is true. I think that Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour is the closest real time strategy video game we have that comes close to our present reality, of war with US vs Russia and Iran or China. In fact, those are the only 4 options you get in C&C Generals: Zero Hour. You get those 4.
It's all about proactive, preplanned base building, about ability to deploy a supply chain of weapons and armaments very reliably.
Preferring China and Explaining the Vote for Gotabaya
1:45 p.m. (d)
So, I think China is a no nonsense type of country. I prefer them. I've always said so. I even voted Gotabaya over Sajith Premadasa for the same reason: China. See, Gotabaya was the China backed candidate. Sajith and many local politicians claim to be "free market" capitalists. But what they really mean, is they're Indian capitalists. They're not exactly Americans like me. They're not state capitalist Singaporeans like me.
Considering a Digital Food Monopoly for Sri Lanka
4:00 p.m.
We want to go fully digital too
I think re: 3:45 pm. : We might go for a 100% monopoly. But that's because then any kitchens or restaurants can buy from us only. It's a hard monopoly to grab. But we could try to do it. If we do it, it's good for us. As we can finance Sri Lanka's food strategy at a national scale.
I think it's a very tough one, but we might do it.
Sharing a Probably False Obama and Michelle Restaurant Story
8:15 p.m. (c)
This is not, to my understanding, a true story :
One night President Obama and his wife Michelle decided to do something out of routine and go for a casual dinner at a restaurant that wasn't too luxurious.
When they were seated, the owner of the restaurant asked the President's Secret Service if he could please speak to the First Lady in private. They obliged and Michelle had a conversation with the owner.
Following this conversation President Obama asked Michelle, "Why was he so interested in talking to you?" She mentioned that in her teenage years, he had been madly in love with her.
President Obama then said, "So if you had married him, you would now be the owner of this lovely restaurant," to which Michelle responded, "No. If I had married him, he would now be the President of the United States."
Penny Pritzker’s Role in Barack Obama’s Political Rise
8:15 p.m. (d)
But this is a true story:
Obama's only been president because of Penny Pritzker.
Because Michelle Obama's brother Craig Robinson was the basketball coach to Hyatt heiress Penny Pritzker's son.
***
Pritzker's friendship with Barack Obama and his family dates back to the 1990s when he was a professor at the University of Chicago.[1] Pritzker met Obama at a Chicago YMCA where her son participated in a basketball program coached by Obama's brother-in-law Craig Robinson.[7][29] Obama and his family were frequent guests at Pritzker's Lake Michigan vacation home.[1][30]
Pritzker was an early supporter of Obama's political career, helping to finance his 2004 Senate campaign. Early in the Democratic presidential primary, Pritzker's financing helped Obama's candidacy survive when Obama was trailing Hillary Clinton in the polls.[30] Pritzker remained a major fundraiser for Obama during the 2008 Democratic primary and raised millions overall for his White House bid.[1] She served as the national finance chair of Obama's 2008 presidential campaign.[31] Under her direction, the campaign reached out to small donors. Pritzker also hosted more lavish fundraisers as part of her effort to raise money.[32]
Following Obama's victory in the 2008 presidential election, CNN reported that Pritzker was president-elect Obama's top choice for Commerce Secretary.[33] However, Pritzker took herself out of the running.[34][35][36] According to the Chicago Tribune, she withdrew her name from consideration "due to obligations to her family, for whom she was still overseeing billions in assets, and the financial crisis, which was putting some of those assets at risk".[37] As a result of her public support for President Obama, Pritzker found herself the target of labor groups for Hyatt Hotels' practices. The president of Unite Here cited her connection to Obama as a reason why the group expected her to use better labor practices as the group staged demonstrations against Pritzker.[30]
Pritzker was a member of the President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness. She also served on the President's Economic Recovery Advisory Board. Although she was less active in the 2012 Obama campaign than she had been four years prior,[30] she served as national co-chair of Obama for America 2012.[31] She was also on the board of directors of the Council on Foreign Relations,[38][39] a nonpartisan think tank focused on world affairs and U.S. foreign policy.
Suggesting China Donate $5 Billion to Poor Americans
10:30 p.m.
China should just donate some money, like $5 billion dollars openly, this Xi Jinping, he should go and donate $5,000,000,000 on behalf of "The People of China", and they can even do an alms collection, to go "build some houses" for the poor people in America.
