How it arrived
A retired senior Sri Lankan civil servant submitted a memoir spanning decades of public service. It arrived in more than twenty Sinhala chapters with many photographs and required substantial translation and editorial work, which AngryPages provided without charge. One passage criticized Jagath Sumathipala and a finance director linked to Sporting Star. Because Jagath is related to the founder and appears on the Protect list, the passage received additional review. The author later asked in writing for it to be removed.
Our decision
We treated the family connection as a reason for care, not an automatic veto, and did not share the author's confidential material with the people named. After repeated corrections and piecemeal delivery briefly paused the project, the author responded constructively. We required one complete manuscript, finished the remaining work, and published the book. Other supported opinions remained. Relationships do not decide publication; evidence and editorial standards do.
