How it arrived
An award-winning Sri Lankan author submitted fiction and satire built around a character resembling President Donald Trump. The editorial team concluded that satire and parody gave the manuscript a credible basis for publication. The publisher disagreed on a small number of passages that closely tracked disputed allegations involving E. Jean Carroll and concluded that the book was not the right fit for the AngryPages brand.
Our decision
We declined the manuscript as a narrow editorial and brand decision, not as a ruling that political satire is unacceptable. Team members argued that the author should remain free to submit other work, and the publisher agreed. Declining one title does not disqualify its author; political work is reviewed case by case for evidence, context, editorial risk, and brand fit.
